How to Succeed in Biology

First, Know the Policy

You can read this year’s policy here:

Distance Learning

  1. Device with camera
  2. Check your background
  3. Mute your mic
  4. Dress appropriately
  5. Headphones
  6. Paper
  7. Pen/Pencil

When we return to class

  1. Pen
  2. Pencil
  3. Paper

Make Sure You Get Credit for Your Work

  • Turn your assignment in on time. Remember: late work will not be accepted without loss of points.
  • Put your name, date, and period in the upper right corner of your paper.
  • Write in pencil or black/blue ink only. Labs must be done in ink.
  • Produce your own work. The King Academic Integrity Policy will be followed.
  • Take care of your paper. Crumpled, spindled, or otherwise mutilated papers will not be accepted.
  • Write legibly. The teacher has to be able to read it to give you credit.
  • Turn your work in on 8 1/2 X 11 paper.
  • Make sure that you have removed the “frilly” edges from your spiral-bound notebook before you give the paper to your teacher.

AAARRRRGGGGG!!!

What do you do if you are having trouble in class? You don’t understand the units? You can’t write a lab? You don’t understand protein synthesis? You hate biology and you want to give up? Look here for help.

First, breathe. Nothing is as bad as you think it is.

Second, let me know. If you feel comfortable, raise your hand in class. I promise you will not be the only one who has a question. Sometimes people do not want to raise their hand in class, so I figure that everyone understands and move on. If this is not the case you need to let me know. I am here to help you. Do not feel that you are the only one who “doesn’t get it”.

If you do not like to raise your hand in class, come and talk to me after the period, or when the class is doing some other activity. I will be glad to help you. Usually, we can get the information taken care of in just a few minutes. If it takes longer, I will schedule some time at lunch or before/after school for you.

Last, understand that I know that biology is not everyone’s favorite subject. My goal is to have you succeed at the level that you want. If you want a good grade, I will make sure that you have the opportunity to earn it. Let me help you.
